This photo is taken with the two trainers that helped lead the Calumet Farms to it’s all-time 1947 high, breaking the record in that year for the farm with the highest earnings in horse racing ever! The Calumet Farms was started by William Monroe Wright who was the founder of the Calumet Baking Powder Company. His son, Warren Wright, Sr. Took over the farm in the 30s. The farm was converted from a standard bred to a thoroughbred farm and started the quick and methodical climb to success. The 3 horses in the picture are the farms most successful and record breaking. There is a faded autograph written on the picture that can’t be quite made out, but it is assumed it has a connection with racing. I can make out a phrase that is also faded: with best wishes. This item was bought in a set of pictures in Columbus, OH. The autograph is a mystery but I peeled off the backing to see the backside and out of an abundance of caution to give the picture some air. When I opened it up it had a request written on the back of this old picture. Can you put a clean mat on this and write on it as on this one. The autograph part of this piece is an interesting mystery. But it is no doubt a unique photo from the history of horse racing and one of the greatest horse farms of all time.
