JOAN FONTAINE She signs a still from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (1961). Photograph signed: “Joan Fontaine”. Scene from the 1961 film Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea about the crew of an atomic submarine who must destroy a deadly radiation belt that has set the polar ice cap ablaze. The younger sister of actress Olivia de Havilland, they were the first sisters to win Oscars and the first to be nominated for Academy Awards in the same year (1941). When Joan won the coveted statuette in 1941, the sisters, who were known for their jealous feuds, became permanently estranged. Having once been quoted, I married first, won the Oscar before Olivia did, and if I die first, she’ll undoubtedly be livid because I beat her to it! Fontaine’s prediction came to pass when she died of natural causes in 2013, at the age of 96. See more material from these signers. See more listings in our ACTORS & ACTRESSES (13,842). Josephine Dunn Original Autograph Signed Ruth Harriet Louise Stamped Photograph
Josephine Dunn Original Autograph Signed Ruth Harriet Louise Stamped Photograph – An extremely rare Original MGM Studio Double Weight Silver Gelatin photograph stamped by MGM and famed photographer Ruth Harriet Louise, Autograph Signed in blue pen by “Josephine Dunn” circa mid 1920’s. A wonderful portrait of the silent screen star by legendary pioneering female photographer Ruth Harriet Louise, a real treasure being offered in VG Condition (border trimmed from 8×10 inches) -Ruth Harriet Louise’s legacy as a pioneering photographer of the 1920s is marked by her extraordinary ability to capture the essence of Hollywood stars, making her work both historically invaluable and highly collectible. Hired as the first official portrait photographer for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) in 1925, Louise shattered gender norms and embarked on a remarkable career that would shape the public images of iconic actors and actresses. Louise’s portraits transcend mere promotional images; they offer a window into the lives, personas, and cultural milieu of early Hollywood. Her photographs, characterized by their intimacy, elegance, and artistic composition, embody the glamour of the silent film era. The surviving prints showcase the stars who defined the industry, such as Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, and Norma Shearer, adding to their allure and collectibility. What makes Louise’s work even more collectible is its scarcity. Many of her photographs were lost or discarded over time due to a lack of preservation awareness. This scarcity has elevated the value of the surviving prints, which serve as rare artifacts that capture a pivotal period in both film and American cultural history. The increasing interest in vintage photography, film history, and memorabilia has led to a surge in demand for Louise’s work. Collectors and enthusiasts alike are drawn to her portraits, appreciating the intersection of cinema and fine art. Her photographs hold a dual appeal, attracting not only film enthusiasts but also photography collectors, thereby expanding their reach within the collector community. Louise’s ability to encapsulate the allure of Hollywood’s golden era through her lens cements her status as a trailblazer in photography. Her work remains an enduring testament to the artistic and cultural significance of early cinema, making her photographs prized possessions for those who seek to own a tangible piece of Hollywood’s past. This is an authentic vintage autographed item hand signed by the celebrity, not a copy. Silver Screen are gradually releasing thousands of Original Photographs, Transparencies, Negatives, Lobby Cards, Posters, Magazines and other memorabilia from our historic archive.
