Chouinard Crag Hammer, signed by Yvon Chouinard and Layton Kor
Chouinard Crag Hammer, signed by Yvon Chouinard and Layton Kor. The perfect gift for the “climber who has everything”! They don’t have this. Nor does anyone else, truly unique. This hammer represents a pivotal time in climbing history when clean climbing was still new and there were a lot of fixed pins that needed testing. This has never been used and has a natural patina. Of course, what makes it really special are the signatures by two of the most famous American climbers. Yvon Chouinard (1938 -). In 1957, Yvon began forging pitons to support his climbing habit in Yosemite. A leading player in the Golden Age of the Valley, he was on the first ascent teams of the North American Wall and the Muir Wall on El Capitan. Other important climbs include South Howser Tower in the Bugaboos, Mount Sir Donald in the Selkirks, Cerro Fitzroy in Patagonia, and Mount Kenya. His company, Chouinard Equipment, lead the way on the transition to clean climbing and the evolution of ice climbing and backcountry skiing. Most non-climbers know him for his company Patagonia and a strong environmental ethic. [Signed Banff Mountain Festival, 2001]. Layton Kor (1938 – 2013) : One of the most prolific and accomplished American climbers of the 1960s, he pioneered countless classic routes in Colorado and Utah. Layton also made notable first ascents in Yosemite, Canada, and the Alps. He was a member of the ill-fated Eiger Direct ascent in 1966; a legendary epic of Nordwand history. Read Beyond The Vertical. [Signed in Golden CO, 2008]. CHOUINARD CRAG HAMMER (FROM GPIW 1978 CATALOG). The Crag Hammer is made specifically for use in free climbing for removing chocks, fixed pegs, and placing rappel. It has a long thin blunt pick that fuctions well for extracting nuts and cleaning dirt and vegetation from. Prospective nut placement cracks. It’s a very handy hammer in Yosemite where it is used along with a whisk broom for. Cleaning out dirty jam cracks. The Crag Hammer is extra light in weight and has a lightening notch under the anvil which. Helps the hammer to cruise securely in the holster. The Crag Hammer has a’Buckeye’ quality American hickory handle which gives unexcelled. Balance, dampens vibration, and is strong and reliable. _gsrx_vers_856 GS 7.0.20 (856).
