A LIMITED EDITION BY ONE OF THE WORLDS FOREMOST AVIATION ARTISTS PAYING TRIBUTE TO THE LEGENDARY DOOLITTLE RAIDERS. INTO THE TEETH OF THE WIND. N the morning of the 18th April 1942, Colonel Jimmy Doolittle opens the throttle to full power to launch his B-25 down the heaving deck of the carrier USS Hornet into a 27 knot gale. His mission, to lead a bomber strike at the very heart of Imperial Japan. Flying their sixteen-bomber force on a long distance one-way mission, the Doolittle Raiders completed the first strike on Imperial Japan since the infamous attack on Pearl Harbor four months earlier. Together, they completed one of the most audacious air raids in aviation history. This dramatic print was reproduced from the original working drawing that Robert produced in preparation for his painting of the same name. AFTAL dealer Deeming Autographs presents: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, a good content handwritten, signed, letter dated 1st July, 1910, on his headed paper, measuring 8 x 5 inches. The letter is to Mr. Charles Humble Dudley Ward, a British Army officer who served with the Welsh Guards. He served during World War I and was a recipient of the Military Cross, as well as being a writer. This letter refers to his book’Jenny Peters’. Doyle informs Ward that his brother-in-law Patrick Stewart Leckie (brother of Conan Doyle’s wife, Jean) has lent him a copy of the book, in part:’I thought it fine – very brave and lofty – well done in every way’. Slip is stationery, with the name and address of Ruth Hendricks of Mamaroneck, New York appearing on verso, along with the date of 12 June 1936 written in pen, and a few other notes. Miss Hendricks was married in August 1936 to Hyman Schulson, a lawyer for the American Zionist Council, who represented the Council at the United Nations in 1948. It was likely in this association that Miss Hendricks knew Einstein and acquired his signature. Mounting remnants to top, overall very good condition.
