Eismeer Patrol by Anthony Saunders signed by Tirpitz and Luftwaffe Veterans
The Tirpitz 11 March 1943. On the morning of 11 March 1943, Fw190s from IV. /JG5 left their base to escort the mighty battleship Tirpitz and a screening fleet of escort destroyers and torpedo boats, at the start of a voyage north to Bogen Bay during Operation Rostock, designed to escape the increasingly frequent British bombing raids. Tirpitz would leave southern Norway to join an impressive German naval battle fleet gathering near Narvik, one of the largest German naval bases in Norway. Together with the Scharnhorst , the heavy cruiser Lützow and the light cruiser Nürnberg , they would pose a grave threat to the Arctic convoys. Tirpitz was the flagship of the German Kriegsmarine. After repeated attempts to sink her she was eventually destroyed by Lancaster Bombers of 617 and 9 Squadrons at her anchorage in. On 12 November 1944. This stunning print has been hand numbered and signed by artist as well as one of the few survivors rescued from the upturned hull of the Tirpitz when she was sunk, along with an escort pilot who was. One the last to fly over the sinking vessel. After serving during the Blitzkrieg in France, he then flew as a Me-110 wireless operator over southern Russia, and then night missions against England in Do-217s with I. In September 1943 he trained as a fighter pilot and flew 65 missions in Me109s with III. /JG5 on the Arctic Front, scoring three victories. In November 1944 he flew in the ill-fated defense of the German battleship Tirpitz arriving too late to intercept RAF bombers. He finished the war in command of 16. At the original release price. SAINTE-MÈRE-ÉGLISE by Simon Smith signed by WWII 82nd Airborne Veterans
Captured by the US 82nd Airborne in the early hours of D-Day, Sainte-Mère-Église would become the first town in France to be liberated by the Allies. The small town of Sainte-Mère-Église, at the foot of the Cotentin peninsula, is just five miles inland from Utah Beach and critical to the Allies right flank. Vital to ensuring a successful landing on Utah, the task of securing the town and road together with the nearby railway line and bridges over the River Merderet, was given to one of the best units in the US Army the battle-hardened paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division. In the early hours of 6 June 1944, after a widely scattered drop, some in the Divisions 505th PIR found themselves landing right in the heart of the town. With the white silk of their parachutes clearly visible, many of the men hanging defenselessly beneath them were easy targets and the casualty rate was high but the men of the 82nd attacked in a ferocious assault. By dawn it was over and with the capture of the town the Stars and Stripes now flew over Sainte-Mère-Église. The prints in this moving limited edition have been individually signed by the artist and two 82nd Airborne veterans who fought in the capture of the town on D-Day. DEAN McCANDLESS Serving with the 1st Battalion, 505th PIR, 82nd Airborne he had already made the first of his four combat jumps in July 1943 at Sicily during Operation Husky, followed by Salerno, before jumping on D-Day. Landing on the outskirts of Sainte-Mère-Église he and his unit fought an intense firefight to successfully capture the bridge over the Merderet River. His fourth jump was during Operation Market Garden before moving on to fight throughout the Battle of the Bulge where he was wounded. He was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart. DUMOUCHELLE Serving with the 82nd Airborne Division, 307th Airborne Engineer Battalion, he had already jumped at Sicily and Salerno before undertaking his third combat jump into Normandy on D-Day into Sainte-Mère-Église. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. The name Sainte-Mère-Église will be forever associated with the highest levels of bravery shown by the US Airborne forces in World War II, and this historic edition represents a lasting tribute to them. His is the perfect opportunity for collectors and history enthusiasts to become custodians of a lasting link to this famous episode in history, for future generations. Midway, The Attack on the Sry by Anthony Saunders signed by Pacific veterans
MIDWAY – THE ATTACK ON THE SRY. SBD pilots pull out of their death-defying dives having delivered their 1000lb bombs perfectly on target with three direct hits on the Japanese carrier Sry. The Sry is doomed, and these few courageous US Navy pilots have changed the course of history. Thursday 4 June 1942, and Admiral Yamamotos plan to draw what remained of the US Pacific fleet into battle was going well. That morning, before dawn, he had launched over a hundred aircraft to pound Midways power plants and oil installations, and the attack had been successful. By 10.20 the noise on the carriers packed flight decks reached a crescendo as the pilots ran up their engines whilst the Sry turned slowly into the wind ready to launch. Few were watching the sky above. They failed to spot the SBD Dauntless dive-bombers from the USS Yorktown gathering high overhead. No one noticed as the battle-hardened pilots of VB-3 banked their SBDs and, swooping like hawks on their prey, dived on the carrier below. THE SIGNATURES The Battle of Midway in June 1942 ranks as the most pivotal naval victory of World War II and alongside the artist Anthony Saunders, this historic print is personally autographed by two veterans who took part in that epic encounter. AMM 1/C GEORGE H. USS Hornet crewman AMM 1/C (Naval Aviation Pilot). PBY and SBD Pilot. A HISTORIC PRINT COMMEMORATING PEARL HARBOR, DECEMBER 7, 1941. USAAF pilot Ken Taylor in his P-40 tomahawk brings down his second enemy aircraft on December 7, 1941, an Aichi D-3Al’ Val’ dive-bomber, with fellow pilot George Walsh flying in close company. As the assault mounted on the Pacific Fleet in Pearl Harbor, simultaneously the air base at Wheeler Field came under heavy attack. Two young USAAF pilots, Kenneth Taylor and George Walsh, quickly got their P-40 Tomahawks airborne. Winging southwards towards Ewa Field they ripped into a dozen or more enemy aircraft attacking the marine field. Diving into the formation they each downed’Val’ fighter-bombers. He later moved to Europe, flying P-47s during the Normandy Invasion. Colonel EARL WILLIAMS Whilst flying a B-17 with the 38th Reconnaissance Squadron from Hamilton Field he ran straight into the Japanese attack and was hit but managed to land his aircraft at Oahu. He flew 60 combat missions in the Pacific, including the Battle of the Coral Sea. Brigadier General JAMES VAN DE HEY He was at Wheeler Field during the attack and then flew the P-40, P-47 and P-51 in the Pacific, including Midway and Iwo Jima in command of the 78th Fighter Squadron.
