Part of Seattle’s famed grunge scene, Nirvana shot to fame after the success of their song “Smells Like Teen Spirit” on their second album Nevermind (1991) , which established the band as the “flagship” of Generation X, and hailing Cobain as the “spokesman of a generation”. Cobain was uncomfortable with this title, believing his artistic vision to have been misinterpreted by the public, as well as frustrated with the public interest into his personal life, including his marriage to musician Courtney Love. He struggled with a heroin addiction in the last years of his life, as well as continued illness and depression, and on April 8, 1994, Cobain was found dead at his Seattle home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His poetic suicide note and his age significance (he was 27 when he died, making him another member of the infamous “27 Club” of musicians who have passed away at that age) have made him a topic of public fascination and debate. 1969 is a rock musician, multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and film director, best known as the founding member of the band Foo Fighters, as well as the drummer of the 90s grunge band Nirvana. Grohl began his career at the age of 17, dropping out of high school to play drums for the hardcore group Scream, before ultimately joining Nirvana; public pressure put a strain on the band’s relationship, and Grohl worked on other projects including songwriting, some of which appear on Nirvana’s last album In Utero (1994). After Kurt Cobain’s suicide in 1995, Grohl formed the Foo Fighters, originally serving as the entire band, playing most of the instruments, singing the vocals, and writing the songs ; since then more band members have joined, and the group has become one of the most popular of the decade, winning multiple Grammy Awards for their albums The Colour and the Shape (1997) , There Is Nothing Left to Lose (1999) and One by One (2002). 1965 is a musician best known as a founding member of the popular 90s grunge band Nirvana. While he can play a variety of instruments, Novoselic prefers to play the bass guitar and has lent his talents to such bands as Sweet 75 , Eyes Adrift (both of which he was a founding member of), Flipper , and the Foo’ Fighters (alongside Nirvana bandmate, Dave Grohl). Novoselic is also known for his political activism, being a well-known member of JAMPAC (Joints Artists and Musicians Political Action Committee), and lobbying against bills that would restrict the sale of certain music to persons under the age of eighteen.
