President Abraham Lincoln / Hamilton Fish Signed Letter Jsa & Psa Mint 9 Auto
Dated January 7, 1862, Hamilton Fish wrote to President. Recommending a friend’s son to a military commission in the Union Army. This was a request for a promotion. Reccomended the promotion to the War Department, then headed by Edwin Stanton as Secretary of War. In dark and bold black fountain pen ink, Hamilton Fish writes. Banyen Ludlow was in the service of the Nw (sic) York Regiment and behaved with much gallantry at the Battle of Bull Run. He has been educated as an Engineer and is a young man of intelligence and of energy… Ludlow, the father, is a worthy member of one of the oldest and one of the most respectable and influential families of the State (of New York)…. He is loyal and earnest in his support of the… I have the honor to be your Obdt. Has written the endorsement: Respectfully submitted to the War Department. S signature and writing are in flawless condition. The same is true of the letter itself and flamboyant Hamilton Fish signature. The letter is free of any imperfections. There are no holes, rips or tears, browning or “foxing”, rust marks or fading. It is the perfect piece of Civil War history. The fact that the Battle of Bull Run is mentioned, lends perspective to where our fragmented country itself lay during this period. Moreover, the fact that such an important statesman, Hamilton Fish, has written this letter further enhances its significance and value. Fish not only holds a prominent position in New York State history, but national history as well. In fact, in 1876 President Grant would endorse him for the Republican nomination to run for president. The presentation of this historical gem is indeed impressive. For starters, photos of both. And Fish are featured on the upper corners inside this stately antique gold frame. To display both sides of the letter, a hinged-door opens allowing the viewer to read either side. Naturally the most important part of the letter–the President. Endorsement and Mint Signature is front and center and in prominent view for all to witness. Additionally, inside the hinged door the viewer can read a plaque quoting verbatim the full text of the letter and endorsement, just another well thought out feature of this important historical piece of memorabilia. This letter comes with a JSA COA + a Mint 9 grade from PSA/DNA on BOTH Abraham Lincoln and Hamilton Fish’s Autograph.
