Elton John – Me / Autobiography – SIGNED (One of only 300 copies from an instore event at Waterstones, London). Condition is Brand New/Unread. During our brief encounter, I had asked Elton what the last piece of music he played on the piano was, to which he comically barked What! I asked again and he simply told me that he was working on new material. Not entirely what I was after, but I got a smile out of the meeting at least! The book has been kept in bubble wrap and has not been read. For those perhaps more sceptical, I have added two pictures of the wristband I wore in order for me to be allowed upstairs to meet Elton and have my book signed. As for the wristband itself, I would really rather keep hold of it as a memento. It may not be possible to post until the governmental ban has been lifted and it is deemed okay for non-essential items to be posted once more. This will be looked at as and when the time comes. WHITE COLLECTION, JOHN F KENNEDY PERSONALLY OWNED & USED SENATE COMMITTEE NOTEBOOK W SIGNED LETTER OF PROVENANCE FROM HIS PERSONAL SECRETARY EVELYN LINCOLN TO ROBERT WHITE, REMOVED FROM HIS DESK NOVEMBER 23, 1963. Kennedy’s personally-owned and -used black faux leather three-ring binder notebook issued to him while on the United States Senate Committee on Small Business, 10 x 11.5, gilt-stamped on the front with his name, “Senator Kennedy, ” and the name of the committee. Inside are two tabbed dividers, marked “General Information” and “Questions, ” each with seven pages of carbon copy typed notes concerning small businesses. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from his personal secretary Evelyn Lincoln to noted JFK collector Robert L. White, in part: This black leather three ring notebookwas provided for use by the Committee for each member and their names were printed thereon. This notebook was on Senator Kennedy’s desk in the Senator Office Building for a while and then later placed in a drawer of that desk. It was brought to the White House in one of the File Cabinets with other Senate material and was stored in a storeroom not far from the Cabinet Room. It was removed on November 23, 1963. Mitscher on the bomber-laden deck of the U. Hornet as the fateful day that would become etched in history approaches. On the stormy morning of 18 April 1942, Doolittle would lead a force of sixteen specially modified B-25 bombers each with a crew of five men – off the heaving deck of the Hornet to strike military targets in the heart of Japan, giving America and its allies an important and badly needed morale boost in the wake of the destruction at Pearl Harbor. The plan was to hit their targets and then head for China to land their B-25s at predetermined airfields, as landing a medium bomber onto the Hornet would be impossible. Most crews bailed out, a few made water landings, and one crew diverted to land in Vladivostok, Russia, where they were interned by their Soviet allies. COA does not prove anything. A COA is signed by someone you do not personally know, could probably never find again, and who may or may not be an expert in anything. Additionally, people have issued COAs on our autographs as though they were their pieces originally—all the more reason to avoid COAs. In the case of most of our items, there is more than just a signature—-there is an entire sentence. To see more handwriting and to know that the item is real. Forgers may be able to write someone’s name and occasionally fool people; however, trying to forge an entire sentence in someone else’s handwriting is nearly impossible. If you are seeking COAs with your autographs, then the question you should be asking yourself is this. What does the COA do for me? A collector needs to educate himself as to what the handwriting of the person he is collecting looks like, and then he will know if it is real or not by his own knowledge. Do not leave this to someone else to do for you. You need to know that your item is authentic because you have done your homework—-not because some piece of paper signed by someone you do not know and who wants to sell you something says it is authentic. If you have not done your homework, and if you have not researched and are familiar with the handwriting of the person whom you are collecting, then with all due respect, then you do not know what you are doing and have no business collecting autographs. Placing your faith in COAs to serve as your proof that your item is real is irresponsible and quite risky. Houses and cars are issued titles—not autographs.
