Build your collection of U. Presidents autographs on this cornerstone document. Founding father and first POTUS George Washington is the author of this very desirable signed free frank. Though more than two centuries have passed since the original Commander-In-Chief put pen to paper, this remarkable signature has withstood the test of time. A “Free Frank” was a courtesy afforded U. Presidents and other officials during the first half of the 19th Century. However, the privilege of using one’s given name was not afforded until 1793 – therefore, he simply signed President U. And we are able to date the item to the first three years of Washington’s Presidency. Despite being over 225 years old, the ink remains bold, clear and visible throughout, especially on Washington’s signature President U. This Free Frank envelope was made out to “The Reverend Jedediah Morse” in Charleston, near Boston. Morse is regarded as the Father of American Geography and was also known as an Illuminati conspirator! And the two were very close.. This piece would look remarkable framed alongside a portrait of our first President. As we photographed this item we were struck by the overwhelming feeling of holding something in our hands that was once held by the first President of our great nation. Encapsulated and certified Authentic by PSA/DNA. Document measures 6 x 3.5. Plastic slab measures: 9.5 x 4.5. George Washington “Hang him by the Neck until he be Dead” Signed Execution Order. At a General Court martial held at Albany by order of Colonel Tupper, Major William Scott President. Shem Kentfield soldier of the First New Hampshire regiment charged with Desertion and bearing arms in the Service of the King of Great Britain against the United States was by the Judgement of the Court found Guilty of the Charge exhibited against him and Sentenced to suffer Death by being Hangeded the Neck until he be Dead which Sentence was afterwards afterwords by Me approvd. You are therefore to take the said Shem Kentfield from the place of his present confinement to the place appointed for his Execution and there Hang him by the Neck until he be Dead for which this shall be your sufficient Warrant. Given under my Hand and Seal at Newburgh. This Twenty Second day of May 1782. By His Excellencys Command. Jona Trumbull Jn Secty. Shem Kentfield left Charlestown, New Hampshire, during the Revolutionary War and went into the British lines in Canada, where he planned a raid on Charlestown with the goal of capturing Colonel Samuel Hunt Jr. On his return with a small party, Kentfield traveled by snowshoes to the vicinity of Charlestown. A hunter found Kentfields tracks in the snow and alerted Col. Hunt, who with a few others captured Kentfield at the house of a local tory. They placed Kentfiled in jail in Charlestown, until an order arrived from the Continental Army at West Point to have Kentfield sent to New York. Officials discovered that Kentfield had enlisted in the 1st New Hampshire regiment but had deserted. He was tried by court martial in Albany, New York, on May 6, 1782, and sentenced to be hanged. On May 11, Colonel Benjamin Tupper in Albany sent to George Washington a copy of the proceedings of the court martial and sentence. Tupper noted, I find his character to be such that I cannot suggest the least hint in his favour and recommended that Kentfield be executed in the presence of the 1st New Hampshire regiment (into which he had inlisted,) which is now at Saratoga. Washington responded on May 20 and left the place of execution to Tupper. In 1777, he married Lurana Dibbell in Charlestown, New Hampshire, and they had at least one child, born in 1780. In Charlestown, he was employed by local surveyors to assist them. He was reportedly a skilled hunter and fisherman. He served in the French and Indian War and at the Battle of Bunker Hill. He later served as a major in the 1st New Hampshire regiment. He was wounded at the Battle of Bemis Heights in September 1777 and lost the use of one hand but continued to serve. Again wounded by a bayonet at the Battle of Monmouth, Scott continued to serve until the end of the war. His injuries made it difficult for him to work after the war, but he did not receive a pension until 1807. After participating in the Siege of Boston, the Battle of Long Island, and the Battle of Monmouth, he served in the Highlands Department and in 1780 was in charge of the chain across the Hudson River at West Point to prevent British ships from passing. For the rest of the war, he served on the northern frontier in command of the 10th Massachusetts and later the 6th Massachusetts regiments. He achieved the rank of brevet brigadier general and served as a Massachusetts legislator after the war. TO SEE ALL THE BOOKS WE HAVE FOR SALE!!! 1790 George Washington Signed Official US Document as President. PSA Gem Mint 10
Official US Document Signed by George Washington as President Decemeber 14, 1790 PSA Graded Gem Mint 10! Also signed and completely handwritten by William Ellery of Rhode Island. Member of the Continental Congress and Declaration Signer–second largest autograph after John Hancock! As the Redcoats retreated from Newport, RI during the Revolutionary War they strategically burnt down and stole the optics from Beavertail leaving the treacherous Narragansett Bay dark for the rest of the War (and many years after). The importance of lighthouses at this time in history cannot be overstated, they were integral to economic success. Without a guiding light, trade ships could not travel at night or in fog. Unfortunately, shipwrecks were especially common in the notoriously shallow, rocky and foggy waters of Narragansett Bay. As a result, Beavertail Lighthouse was officially constructed in 1749 though a “tended light” had been established at the turn of the 18th century, making it the first ever navigational light in the US. In 1790, Newport was one of the biggest US cities and a major trade hub between the US and Europe. It’s most notable industry was manufacturing rum from molasses harvested in the South. Newport was the fourth richest city at this time- behind only New York, Boston and Philadelphia. George Washington (1789-97) and Alexander Hamilton knew Newport’s key economic role and one of the first orders as President was to restore Beavertail lighthouse to enable safe travel of valuable vessels and cargo. Washington provided immediate federal funding to jump-start trade. Although, federal funding and centralized control was definitely not a popular notion at this time, the forefathers knew that economic success was paramount to the survival of our young Nation. Rhode Island, hesitant to lose a valuable asset to a central power, made a provision stipulating that if the lighthouse is not well kept by the Federal Government than it will default back to State ownership. Today it’s still federally owned and maintained by the US Coast Guard. Here’s a rare chance to own a historically important United States document with one of the earliest George Washington signatures as President of the United States. Not to mention, the finest Washington autograph in existence! In fact, PSA graded the jet black autograph Gem Mint 10! And an unknown signature of D. Lyman likely a secretary or witness. All four executed this contract on Oct. 15, 1790 and “interchangeably set our hands”. Comes with a PSA Letter of Authenticity and Graded GEM MINT 10!! Investment grade and Pure Brigandi Quality! Document reads in full. Whereas in pursuance of an Act of a Congress of the United States for defraying the Expences of the Light Houses in the several States, and of instructions received from the Secretary of the Treasury of the United States William Martin is continued Keeper of the Light House on the Island of Conannicut in the Town of James Town in the State of Rhode Island &c until the pleasure of the President of the United States shall be known.
